Welcome, my name is Tola Ishola and I am an integrative counsellor. I am passionate about working with individuals from all backgrounds to help promote their mental health and wellbeing. I am registered with the NCPS (accredited), insured and have an Enhanced DBS.
Although the stigma around talking about our mental health has improved over the years, we all still have times when we struggle to cope, feel overwhelmed, stressed or just need someone outside of our personal circle to talk to, if that sounds familiar, then you are in the right place.
Counselling is an opportunity to talk to a trained professional in a confidential space about the issues that are of concern to you. Counselling can give you the opportunity to process and explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours to better understand yourself and find ways to manage those challenges of life that we all face.
Many of us struggle with opening up to our close friends and family members or simply do not want to burden or worry them. That is where talking with a professional counsellor could help.
I trained using the Pluralistic approach which draws on a number of approaches, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic and Humanistic approaches and the approach we may use during the sessions will depend on what suits you, and your unique situation. Fundamentally, I believe in working collaboratively with my clients, trusting that they are the experts on their journey and my role is to provide the space for reflection, exploration and change.
I am also a keen advocate in promoting self-care, relaxation and finding balance within our busy everyday lives.
Counselling sessions are led by you, the client, and my role is to provide you with a non-judgemental space where you can be yourself.
I will always be open and honest with those I work with as we build a collaborative therapeutic relationship in order for me to understand you, your experiences and your views.
We work at your pace and it’s always okay to say when you are not quite ready to talk about something yet.
We may at times review our work together during your counselling journey and I can explain more about this at the time.
During sessions, we can also look at tools that may help you manage your day-to-day life and if appropriate, we may set tasks for you to reflect on in-between sessions.
Sessions can be challenging and evoke suppressed emotions for some so it may be important to think about how you will take care of yourself, an area that I am passionate about.
